Water, water, everywhere!
North Muskoka is synonymous with lakes, trees and granite outcroppings, but it’s the lakes that are most favoured by summer visitors. Beautiful to look at and fun to play in, North Muskoka lakes are where many lasting memories are made.
So how many ways can you spend your days in or on the water in North Muskoka?
When you stay at the Resorts of North Muskoka, you have an abundance of family-friendly waterfront amenities and activities to choose from.
Swimming is the most obvious way to play in the water. Jump off the dock, swim out to a raft or the inflatable water toys, or just wade out from the beach. North Muskoka’s lakes are warm at water’s edge and delightfully cool in deeper areas – the perfect way to cool off in the heat of summer.
You can also paddle a canoe, kayak or stand up paddleboard (SUP) near or far. Let the wind carry you in a sailboat or on a windsurfer. Peddle your way along the shore in a paddleboat. All of the Resorts of North Muskoka have some or all of these vessels available for guests to use free of charge.
If you have a need for speed, feel the power of the water beneath your feet from behind a boat – waterski, wakeboard, wakesurf or go tubing. You might even get a lesson from your resort hosts!
If that all sounds like too much work, take a guided boat tour of the lake with your resort hosts and see the sights. Bring your camera and watch out for loons, herons, turtles and more!
Like to fish? Catch a lake trout, yellow perch or smallmouth bass from the dock or a boat. Or head for deeper waters in search of the more elusive northern pike. (Don’t forget your fishing license, your resort owner can help you get one.)
And you can have just as much fun at water’s edge. Try early-morning yoga on the beach or on the dock – either on your own or ask your hosts about classes with travelling instructors. Build a sandcastle with your kids (or on your own – we won’t tell!). Play beach volleyball. Or just relax in a Muskoka chair and listen to the loons or the gently swelling surf.
In North Muskoka, it’s easy to spend entire days enjoying the lakes. But don’t forget about all of the other fun things to do while you’re here. Ask your resort hosts to recommend local attractions and points of interest.
